They are all from the last ice age when the glaciers crushed the rock into fine dust. Basically, all earth is composed of loess, which consists primarily of quartz, alumina-silicates, calcium, minerals and trace elements. The particular composition of its makeup and minerals form the corresponding properties of a clay.
