Natural Couch Detergents

How much time do you spend on your sofa? Think about it. We cuddle up on the couch with a good book and cup of tea, enjoying a good movie with some snacks spread out not too far away, or invite friends over for a good long chat and some coffee. Even when purchasing a stain-resistant sofa, sooner or later it requires cleaning. Here are some natural remedies to get the cleaning process going.

Give your couch a good and thorough vacuuming, ridding it of all those crumbs and dust that might have accumulated in the corners and folds.

Create your very own natural couch detergent by adding juice from a whole lemon as well as two tablespoons of baking soda to two litres of water. Soak a clean microfiber cloth in the solution and use it to first test a patch on the sofa before cleaning the entire surface.
Baking soda dissolves stains while lemon juice will act as a disinfectant in eliminating pesky dust mites.
Thereafter, pour a few drops of eucalyptus or tea tree oil on a clean microfiber cloth to keep unwanted crawlers at bay.

A leather sofa is subject to more wear and tear, yet it is usually much easier to clean! Start by vacuuming the sofa and follow with a wet microfiber cloth to wipe away the dust. Dilute 1/2 cup of white vinegar in one litre of water and use this solution to clean your leather couch. Use a clean microfiber with a few drops of tea tree or eucalyptus oil once again to ward off any dust mites.
